I’m Brian, the filmmaker behind Hanscoop Films. I’m based in Boston, and I make documentary wedding films.
My job on a wedding day is to notice things. A hand on a shoulder before the ceremony. The breath someone takes before a toast. The guest who laughs a second too early. Those small minutes between the planned ones are usually where the film is.
Most of the day, I stay out of the way. I film what happens and let it play out. When a small suggestion will help the film, like a few minutes outside or a better spot for the light, I’ll offer it. Then I step back.
Sound matters to me as much as the picture. Vows, speeches, the room reacting. When you watch the film, I want you to hear the day as well as see it.
I work alongside your photographer, not around them. I use more than one camera, so the ceremony and speeches can be cut from more than one angle. On some collections an associate cinematographer joins me. When that’s part of your day, I’ll tell you up front.
If you want an analog layer, I can bring real Super 8 film or a 90s VHS camera. It’s an option, not a requirement. The film is documentary first.
I take a limited number of weddings each year. That’s on purpose. It keeps my attention on yours.
